A qualified design engineer he personally designed the very first CCTV for passenger aircraft in the late 1980's. This also lead to a six week trip to Savannah to fit them to Al Fayed's private jet fleet. He later worked as an engineering consultant for the MOD and others. Wishing to continue learning he was given the opportunity to renovate two houses which lead to his love of wood and joinery. Largely self taught, with a family history of woodwork and cabinet making, he turned his hand to building houses and passed exams to be NHBC registered. After 5 years as a Metropolitan Police Officer (a job he dreamed of doing when he was a child) he returned to building in London and Surrey, but from his Joinery workshop in Surrey (where he undertook work for clients including Yves St Laurent) he gradually undertook more bespoke joinery and less building work. Moving to bigger premises in Wiltshire, he formed WJ in 2004. Having promoted SpiderKitchens.com, a couple of years ago which is proving a successful string to our bow, Phil has now set his sights on utilising all his experience, skills, and design flair to produce an elite selection of consol tables for the most discerning clients. These are in the process of being shown to the world and we will be blogging their unveiling soon. With WJ's exceptional reputation, along with renowned quality and craftmanship and with Phil's experience to deal with every aspect of the home, we believe we will continue to be able to offer a predictably superior service to all.
Debby Lester - Director
A qualified PA, Debby lived and worked in central London before joining the Metropolitan Police where she met Phil. Together they started running a building company in Surrey, and then helped create WJ when moving to Wiltshire in 2004. Her love of designing houses lead her to develop her natural interior space design skills by undertaking work for family and friends redesigning the space in their homes. This in turn made a dream hobby turn into a fantastic opportunity for WJ clients to discuss their visions and requirements to help utilise the space in their homes. Her success was helped by her fabulous initiatives and the subsequent savings made to her clients who were otherwise paying extortionate architect fees. Getting most of her work through verbal recommendations she has worked in London and the Home Counties as well as Wiltshire, and being able to utilise Phil's building acumen has helped. She offers an invaluable service to clients helping them make important decisions. As Director and Company Secretary of the WJ Group she works full time with her design enquiries and also undertaking the admin and book keeping. She says "All the work we undertake at Wiltshire Joinery is for our clients. Without them we are nothing, so personal recommendation is key, whether it is for our joinery, our SpiderKitchens.com, our Spray Workshop service or the Space Design service, or our newest range of high end furniture (coming soon). It all links to each other and we are proud of our achievements and our goals. We also tend to attract the loveliest clients, which really helps."
Andy Fletcher - Manager
A wood machinist by trade with 24 years experience, Andy is our work shop manager. With vast experience of working with wood, he was a leading hand in the manufacture of the Hogwarts (Harry Potter) refectory tables and was also involved in projects such the manufacturing of Terence Conran's range of furniture, and the interior fit out of the Swiss Rea Building in London, lovingly known as The Gherkin.
Aran Collins - Cabinet Maker
Aran has worked in the trade since he was 16 years old. He is a qualified wood machinist but most of his 24 years experience has been gained whilst cabinet making. Employed by several high end furniture makers he joined Wiltshire Joinery in 2011. His involvement with sculptures has enabled him to work with glass, fibre glass and bronze, as well as some unusual and traditional woods. But it is his experience in manufacturing exquisite pieces of furniture using walnut, old oaks and mahogany, using inlays for that extra special, extravagant result, that has added yet another string to WJ's bow.
Ross Hayes - WJ Sprayer
Ross joined us as an Apprentice 8 years ago. He trained as a joiner but has moved with the business and chose to undertake the training and responsibility for our spray workshop. After one to one training on site by some different external teachers he is now a competent and well versed member of the spraying team. Sometimes being in the right place opens up opportunities and his hard work with WJ has enabled him to continue to develop his range of skills and he is enjoying this opportunity to get out and learn all the newest techniques and innovations so we can offer the exceptional to our clients.
